Movicol Powder Sachets are ideal for treating constipation in children above 12 years of age. The lemon-lime flavouring makes it palatable when dissolved in water. The medication works by causing water retention in the bowel and bulking up the stomach contents and softening up the stools. It also acts to trigger peristalsis, whereby the intestinal muscles contract to expel the faecal matter. The wetting action of the retained-water also makes bowel evacuation easier due to less straining required. The presence of electrolytes in addition to the primary ingredient minimises dehydration risk.
Discontinue if feeling fatigued, breathless, and extremely thirsty along with a headache or if your ankles have become swollen as these are indication of electrolyte imbalance. Heart patients need to exercise caution. Not to be taken by those with intestinal perforations or obstructions, bowel and anal passage inflammation, ulcerative colitis, or toxic megacolon. Do not use if allergic to any ingredient. Side effects may include abdominal pain, sickness and vomiting, diarrhoea, abdominal selling, flatulence, headache, and anal discomfort.
